The U.N. Security Council Saturday unanimously imposed travel bans and asset freezes on Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, members of his family and inner circle amid continuing attacks on anti-government protesters.  The council imposed an asset freeze on Gadhafi, his four sons and one daughter and a travel ban on the whole family along with 10 other close associates. On Tuesday, the US Treasury Department slapped sanctions against six individuals and five companies located in Iran and Turkey for allegedly providing materials and support for Iran’s ballistic missile development projects ( Iran’s Aerospace Industries Organization (AIO)). The measure prohibits transaction between the said companies and individuals and US entities, and freezes any assets they may have under US jurisdiction. On her recent visit to Malaysia, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton lauded Malaysia’s “creative approach” to Islamic banking. She also intervened on behalf of Malaysia’s “de-facto” opposition Islamic Party leader, Anwar Ibrahim, on trial for sodomy and corruption. Apparently recent Wikileaks State Department released cables with information alleging Anwar’s careless sexual behavior, did not reach the Secretary.
